STEP 2: Exploring the Types of Research Opportunities
at UCF
- Volunteer: Volunteering to help with a faculty member’s research is a great way to begin your involvement with research and usually requires less time commitment.
- Credit: Most departments on campus offer independent research credit, whereby you receive academic credit towards your degree as a result of work completed with a faculty mentor. Check with your advisor.
- Paid: Many students on campus receive financial compensation for completing research. However, these positions often require a larger time commitment (10-20 hours/week, more in the summer). Payment may be issued as a stipend, scholarship, or hourly wage.
- UCF has many funded research opportunities.
- Some faculty have grant money to support undergraduate research.
