STEP 3: Identifying Potential Faculty Mentors

  • Visit and review the UCF department website that corresponds with your area of research interest in order to find information about faculty members, including their research interests. Many departments list each faculty member’s research interests, and sometimes faculty have personal research websites which are linked from the departmental website.
  • Talk with people within your department such as instructors, teaching assistants, advisors, upperclassmen engaged in research, etc. These individuals may be able to suggest possible faculty mentors and help direct your research interests.
  • Do your homework concerning each faculty member with whom you are interested in conducting research. Make sure you are familiar with their interest areas and current research projects (if available online) prior to contacting potential mentors (see below).
